Though the characters do kiss, they never go further, so i think it should be appropriate for mature 12 year olds maybe, (i read it at 13), and definitely 13 and up. There is quite a bit of violence, and several characters are murdered or injured, though it is not for no reason and it only serves to add to the plot line. There is definitely drinking, though the main character jude doesn’t do it to excess herself, and though there are no drugs or mentions of drugs, there is “faerie fruit” which does induce hallucinations and behaviour similar to drugs. There is some light swearing i believe, but only a bit and no super bad words. The characters have such character development and their personalities are intriguing, unique and enthralling. Though none of the characters are “good”, and all are certainly morally gray, there is a good sense of right and wrong and yeah. Between the complex characters and shocking plot twists it’s amazing.
